Giant Cement Company
A joint venture between Ibberson and TIC-The Industrial Company Wyoming, Inc. completed concrete slipform work as part of the Giant Cement Company’s 3,000-TPD plant expansion at its plant in Harleyville, South Carolina.
The JV performed concrete slipform work for the preheat tower, blending silos, clinker silos and fly ash silo. The preheat tower (shown above) is a slipformed concrete structure approximately 48 feet wide by 75 feet long by 220 feet tall.
Using reinforced concrete for the main structure as opposed to structural steel allowed for a more open design. This is a great advantage for the large and complicated mechanical systems designed to run in and out of the tower. At time of completion, it was the third slipformed concrete preheat tower built in the United States.
