Petfood Facility - Lebanon, Tenn.
CLIENT
Nutro Products, Inc.
Ibberson was awarded the contract for a premium new dog and cat food facility that was a highly confidential project at the time it was conceived and built. The extruded, dry pet food process was designed jointly by Nutro and Ibberson. The facility itself was designed and constructed by Ibberson.
The 245,000 square-foot plant included a 135-foot slipform batch mix tower and an 81-foot precast concrete packaging tower. The towers facilitate gravity and pneumatic material handling, which minimize cleaning and sanitation issues.
The design criteria mandated that the production plant be expandable by as much as 100 percent of its original capacity without downtime or loss of production. In addition, the site was designed for future production and warehouse expansion.
The design-build fast-track project took 13 months from groundbreaking to start-up. The scope and the aggressive schedule prompted Ibberson to assign three assistant superintendents and two onsite engineers. Working closely with the owner, Ibberson completed the project on time and met the budget.
